our queer elders album release show

  • Eastham Public Library 190 Samoset Road Eastham, MA, 02642 United States (map)

Join geologist by day, singer-songwriter by night Katie Castagno on August 23 for a live performance celebrating the release of Our Queer Elders—a full-length studio album (out 8/22 on all streaming services) honoring historical figures who have queered gender and social norms. Through storytelling and original song, Katie brings to life often-unacknowledged queer legacies. From the genderless 18th-century preacher the Public Universal Friend; to the deep partnership of conservationist Rachel Carson and her lover, Dorothy Freeman; to the electric connection between Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keeffe, the album uplifts stories not always found in the history books.

At a time when queer and trans rights and histories are being actively challenged and erased, Our Queer Elders affirms that we have always been here, and our stories deserve to be heard, remembered, and celebrated. Come celebrate with us!

Our Queer Elders was made possible with generous support from The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, The National Endowment for the Arts, The Cordial Eye, and Club Passim.
